About Me

Hi, I'm Candace, a reader, poet, and teacher living in a tiny cottage in the countryside of Portugal.

I've been a theatre maker, a teacher, a jeweller. I'm a solo mom to two children and have lived in three countries. My life has been about storytelling, finding beauty in transitions, and learning what it means to create a home in unfamiliar places.

I created Paper Boat Letters as a way to connect with a way of life that I feel many of us miss. The joy of receiving a letter, knowing that someone took the time to write to you and that you are not alone. Slowing things down a bit.

I write from two places: from the lighthouse at Cabo da Roca, where I contemplate light and storms, and from my kitchen table on the Camino de Santiago, where I share the quiet rhythm of countryside life. Each month, I handwrite letters, type them on my vintage typewriter, and include original art and poetry.

These letters are paper boats of hope. They're for anyone navigating difficult times, anyone craving something real to hold, anyone who needs a reminder that beauty still exists and that some things are worth waiting for.

If that sounds like you, I'd be honored to write to you.
